Construct + Self Portrait

Construct + Self Portrait

Founded by Han Chong in 2013, self-portrait has rapidly established a reputation as a game changing fashion brand. With an expanding global presence self-portrait approached Construct to define the brands positioning, establish a clear tone of voice and create a brand book and communications guidelines to support the growing business and expanding team.

“Beauty shouldn’t only be an option for the privileged few”

Working closely with Han and his team, Construct deconstructed and re-defined the self-portrait brand story. The definition of brand was created to provide a series of feelings which allow the audience to understand. Built on an appreciation of self-portrait as a living brand, unexpected, adaptive and in conversation with contemporary culture the positioning was created to inspire its audience to absorb and project the brand ethos.

self-portrait is 100% privately owned by its founder, it is brave, it is unpredictable and it has purpose. Construct’s work has helped set the path for the continued growth of this exceptional brand.

Construct + Hill & Friends SS20

Construct + Hill and Friends

For SS20 Hill and Friends approached Construct to create a new brand marque to communicate the brands commitment to 100% made in England manufacture. Construct imagined an ‘inside out’ approach to branding, using the concept of the honesty of an inner label or makers marque and bringing it proudly to the outside of the product, replacing the usual brand logotype.

Editorial Design

The result is an oversize typographic marque celebrating manufacturing craft and origin with a simple, bold transparency. The concept is focussed on ‘Made in England’ and the resulting typographic grid is designed to be used flexibly as a blind embossed product stamp or placed oversized over imagery, to boldly claim responsibility for sourcing and manufacture in communications material.

To coincide with this change Hill and Friends launched a new product collection with a similarly deconstructed, minimal and timeless functional aesthetic. Launched for SS20, Construct also art directed the model shoot. Art direction reflected the new mood with a fresh take on perspective and beautiful utility, using relaxed styling to create a boldly simple, product focussed, aesthetic.

Travelling Whilst Staying Still

Travelling Whilst Staying Still

Whilst many of us need to stay at home at the moment, wanderlust and cultural curiosity don't need to stop. Our eyes and minds can travel from the comfort of our front rooms thanks to the amazing virtual tours the world's great cultural institutions have created.

Here are a few of the very best, the Construct Grand Tour.

Enjoy and stay safe

Construct X

Virtual Tours of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

The Nightwatch by Rembrandt has a fantastic 'experience' section where you are immersed into the gallery with guided narration.

Virtual Tours of the Louvre, Paris

The remains of the Louvre's Moat is a really good one, though the arrows take a little getting used to.

Virtual Tours of the Vatican, Rome

Raphael's rooms are totally insane.

Virtual Tours of the Guggenheim, New York

Like Google maps street-view, but for the inside of the Guggenheim.

Virtual Tours of the Uffizi Collection, Florence

A little more basic, but a fantastic insight into the Uffizi's masterpieces with explanations and guided 'online exhibitions'.

National Theatre at Home

You can now stream National Theatre productions from your home, showing this week are Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo in Antony & Cleopatra.
