INSIGHT

Sutton 1079, formerly Sir Richard Sutton Ltd, is a family-owned enterprise built on almost a thousand years of heritage, operating across 15,000 acres of UK farmland, a collection of distinctive British hotels, and an established portfolio of commercial property. Following a period of change, the family and business recognised the need to evolve the brand. Construct was appointed to develop a robust yet flexible brand architecture to structure the business for long-term growth.

IDEA

Construct began by listening. Interviews with the family and leadership team revealed an organisation united in its values and desire to evolve without losing what made it distinctive. The family archive then led us to the name: Sutton 1079, the year the Sutton name first appeared in historical records. It also shaped the visual identity. The family coat of arms was reinterpreted as a bold wolf head icon symbolising guardianship, resilience and leadership, with a colour palette drawn from the same source. Tone of voice, values and narrative followed, giving the business a shared language to communicate with confidence.

IMPACT

Sutton 1079 now has an identity as distinctive as its history. Drawn from the archive, the brand feels earned, a modern expression of a legacy that was always there. A new employer value proposition extends that identity inwards, giving teams across each pillar a shared reason to belong. The result is a brand with the confidence to move forward as one, and the craft to endure for generations.
